Make Love Make War: Now is the Time to Worship by Brian Doerksen
In this book, Brian Doerksen, a famous Christian song writer and worship leader, shares with us his thoughts and meditations about his songs. As his format he offers the words to songs he wrote, commentary related to each song, and a few song writing tips inspired by his experience. Brian does not pretend to be a great theologian, but just a worship leader sharing some of his thoughts about worship. Brian’s commentary is almost conversational, like having a pleasant chat and talking about faith over a cup of coffee.
Some of Brian’s observations follow. Worship is surrender to God. The important thing is who you are, titles, names, and worldly status are not important to God. God invites us to be ourselves, simply with no false faces but all in honesty and truth
Brian suggests using action words for Praising God. The acts are not ours but God’s actions. He discusses the actions of God in his songs. God creating, forgiving, arising, and romancing.
Doerksen gives an awesome meditation on “creating”. Brian ponders the world God created, with the complexity of this earth and the vastness of the universe. Doerksen also has a superior meditation on “romancing”. God the hound of heaven who never quits. God who is pure love, takes the initiative. The Lord seeks us and loves us first and always. God is like a lover who focuses upon us and our needs. The Lord loves us without condition because we are as God made us.
